Centre for Compassionate Conservation

Centre for Compassionate Conservation

We are an innovative research, education and advisory centre that is focused on the protection of wild animals using a Compassionate Conservation approach.

Compassionate Conservation recognises that the welfare of individual animals matters as much as the welfare of entire animal populations.

Our research provides new solutions to previously intractable problems and advocates for better co-existence and reduced harms to wild animals. We aim to build knowledge stocks and flows through engaging in research collaborations, encouraging public debate, working with our partners and government wildlife agencies and by offering cross-disciplinary teaching and learning programs.

We go that extra step to foster transformative learning by encouraging decision makers to critically reflect on their assumptions when making environmental decisions and asking whether the same outcome can be achieved in a way that does nor cause harm to wild animals.
